THE Global Warming question...?

If H2O expands as it freezes and contracts as it melts, therefore displacing the exact amount of fluid in either state. Then for example if global warming melted the northen ice cap, it should result in no rise in the level of the ocean.... so no real fuss- agreed?

  1. No. The ice at the northern cap is merely floating on the ocean. Therefore, when it melts it would be raising the sea level.

  2. do you think all the ice is under the see.

melting of mountains of ice will ofcourses incerase the volume...

  3. The northern polar ice cap essentially sits floating on the Arctic Ocean, so no rise in sea level due to it's melting.  The rises from melt water would come from ice that is on land masses, such as Greenland and the Antarctic.
