  1. ps3's region free...who cares about compatability.

  2. It's already out in U.S. And it does have backward compatibility. (meaning it plays ps2 games)

  3. Its already out in the USA. But for the UK, theres two different release dates: one is on the 22nd August and the other is on the 27th August. And just to clear up this model doesn't have backward compatibility with PS2 games unfortunately. Go on these website "www.game.co.uk"

    "www.gamestation.co.uk" and www.hmv.co.uk

I found these sites very useful cause I am looking to buy a PS3 as well.

  4. Announced at E3 2008.  On August 27th the only PS3 available will be the an 80gb system with no backwards capabilities for $399.

  5. Considering that there's a 80GB PS3 right now that can play some PS2 games in the US, why would Sony release a "new" 80GB PS3 which is identical to the same model only costs $100 less?

No, the new 80GB PS3 will not only cost $100 less but it'll also be unable to play PS2 games.  Sony has said that all future PS3s will not have the PS2 backwards compatibility feature for cost cutting issues.

Which means, if you want to play PS2 games, buy the current 80GB PS3, because once it's gone, that's it.
