ok when it gets to the part where it asks you to chose between choosing "select by color" or "select manually" i chose select manually and i did what it says and my image turned greyscale but when i try to erase the parts i want in color it doesn't let me:[[ help?

  1. You want to make sure you have an adjustment layer on top of the original color image. On the layers pallet there is a small circle button on the bottom. If you click on it, you'll get a list where you should see hue and saturation. Once to click that, a box will open. Here just slide the saturation bar all the way to the left. Now on this same layer you can erase what you want to keep in color.

    If that doesn't work, you can also do this:

    Right click on the original color image layer and go to duplicate layer. Now with this new layer selected, go to image > adjustments > hue and saturation. Now make sure that under edit it says master. Now slide the bar for saturation all the way to the left and click ok. Now you can erase what you want on this layer. Hope that helps.
