  1. you should really just throw the egg at your neighbors kid or something

  2. Leave it alone, let nature take it's course. It will not hatch with just warm sun shine. I would not try to hatch it myself, it is a complacated process, Turning the egg, keeping the Heat and humity just right and too, unless you are willing to take the time it takes to feed the baby every hour 24/7 then this is a job for mom.

  3. breakfast

  4. do you have an rspb where you live? try giving them a call or a local vets...good luck x

  5. just leave it there for 1 or 2 days, if the mom dosent come back bring it in and put it in a little bowl with some towels and put a lamp over it.

  6. I had the same problem, and found that 8 mins of boiling allowed it to hatch into a delicious meal.mmmmm Pidgeon!

  7. Omelettes are nice. Although not with scabby pigeons.

  8. You should just leave it alone.  You will realize, once it hatches, if it does, that you won't be able to keep up with the feeding of the bird.  Pigeons are hap hazard messy things, and they are scattered beyond compare.  THe fact that it laid a solitary egg on you sill is not surprising, and that it isn't comming back simply means it found a better place, or it died or something.  There are so many pigeons, you should not worry about this one egg that may never hatch.  But I understand how you feel about it.  If I were you, I would not touch the nest/egg to much, if at all, because of the awful and abounding parasites, mites, and germs pigeons carry on their thickly feathered bodies.  They do eat carion, and basically anything they can find, and God knows what nasty things they'll find on a road.....

My suggestion is just leave the nest where it is.  It could be the mom is comming back, you just haven't seen it.  Durring these warmer years, I have noticed that parrents have not had to sit on their eggs as much, especially at this time of year.  However, the egg will not hatch if the humidity is too low, which may be the case, if you do not live in a humid area.

laid just one egg in the nest and not come back, is in a territorial deffence.  Some birds do this, where they go around laying random eggs in nests, so that other birds think that the area is already occupied.  This may be the reason.

Remove the nest (and egg if necesary) after breeding season is over (September/october).

ANd remember, if the egg hatches, LEAVE IT ALONE!  It's better for the bird to die in nature than to die becaus you tried to feed it and that failed.  Plus, pigeons feed their yong a milk that is stored in their throat, and you will never be able to reproduce that.

  9. An egg can survie 2hrs without being warmed by its mother.  Leave it where it is and kinda spy on it from a neighbor house.  If the mother does not come back within the hour then you need to determine if its fertil.  You will have to hold a light to it to see if there is anything in it.  If its not fertil, proble solved.  If it is then you have to decide if you want to take it to someone who has an incubator or buy one quickly (a big investment.)  If you do keep it and you are successful in hatching it, then you have a commitment of hand feeding the baby bird every 10-15 minutes 12 hrs a day.  they sell the handfeeding formula at petco and petsmart.

    Good luck.

  10. Just leave it be.  The mother may be coming back, or may not.  Perhaps the egg is infertile.  But you are not responsible for caring for anyone else's child, so don't be responsible for a pigeons's child!

Never, never, never interfere with animals.  They know how to do what they do better than anyone else.

It's wonderful that you're concerned for the bird!  But, it's not your responsibility.
