Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him, reported:

The Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) said: I have been commanded to fight against people until they testify that there is no god but Allah, and he who professes it is guaranteed the protection of his property and life on my behalf except for a right warrant, and his affairs rest with Allah.

  1. I have not heard that hadith...but...you can ask www.questionsonislam.com

  2. When the word fight rose up, everyone thought it was a physical combat. No, it is not. To fight could mean a physical fight, a fight in your heart and also in your mind.

  3. If this hadith is true then it means only that prophet Muhamed is ordered to fight the pagans and the infidels during war time ( the justified wars in the Quran ) until they say there is no God but Allah .

Wars in Islam mainly is for self defence , you need to read all the verses which talk about fighting to have the whole picture correctly .

  4. There is no compulsion to become Muslim but there is a compulsion to live under the rule and laws of Allah (swt).

This is so that all obstructions to da'wah can be removed and the oppression of 'Man Made Systems' can be replaced by the Justice of Allah (swt)'s law.

  5. I read that if a hadith contradicts the Quran, the hadith must be disregarded.

  6. Maybe this hadith is not authentic.

  7. "Fight those who believe not in Allah nor the Last Day, nor hold that forbidden which hath been forbidden by Allah and His Messenger, nor acknowledge the religion of Truth, (even if they are) of the People of the Book, until they pay the Jizya with willing submission, and feel themselves subdued." (9:29)

The verse above does relate to the Hadith below and is not a weak hadith.

The Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) said: I have been commanded to fight against people until they testify that there is no god but Allah, and he who professes it is guaranteed the protection of his property and life on my behalf except for a right warrant, and his affairs rest with Allah.

This verse and hadith specifically pertain to the rules of non-Muslims living in a Muslim country. They are given options: stay in the country and pay Jizya (taxes, specifically the one non-Muslims pay when living in a Muslim country) in which will guarantee the protection of their lives and property, provided means of transportation to another country of their choice, or be fought against.

This verse and hadith do not apply to any circumstance except that mentioned above: a non-Muslim living in a Muslim country. There are books in which hadiths are considered sahih, Bukhari, Muslim, etc. So long as the hadith does not contradict the Quran, it is sahih. As for no compulsion or force in religion, that still applies. In this case it is still applied because the non-Muslims are given choices as to whether they want to become Muslim, or stay in the country and pay taxes, or leave the country by means of transportation provided.

As for the criteria, the Hadith should not contradict the Quran. Bukhari and Muslim are two of the 6 books that are highly regarded as Sahih.

Hope this clears things out! Let me know if you have other questions =]

  8. Without any doubt this Hadeeth is authentic.

    It was reported with a Saheeh chain of narration (حدثنا ‏ ‏أبو الطاهر ‏ ‏وحرملة بن يحيى ‏ ‏وأحمد بن عيسى ‏ ‏قال ‏ ‏أحمد ‏ ‏حدثنا ‏ ‏و قال ‏ ‏الآخران ‏ ‏أخبرنا ‏ ‏ابن وهب ‏ ‏قال أخبرني ‏ ‏يونس ‏ ‏عن ‏ ‏ابن شهاب ‏ ‏قال حدثني ‏ ‏سعيد بن المسيب ‏ ‏أن ‏ ‏أبا هريرة ‏ ‏أخبره ‏ ) in the Saheeh of Imaam Muslim in the Book of Eemaan.

    An-Nawawee states from al Khattaabee:

    وَذَهَبَ مَالِك إِلَى أَنَّ تَوْبَة الزِّنْدِيق لَا تُقْبَل

    وَيُحْكَى ذَلِكَ أَيْضًا عَنْ أَحْمَد بْن حَنْبَل رَضِيَ اللَّه عَنْهُمَا

((And Maalik went to the position that the repentance of the Heretic is not accepted and it's been ruled on from Imaam Ahmad bin Hanbal as well may Allaah be pleased with them both))

Here it refers to those who do not have with them any traits of Tawheed whatsoever.

As for coming between the verse and the Hadeeth then there is no contradiction.

The people are not forced, but the shirk is not to be made manifest. Because the purpose of Jihaad is what? To raise the banner of Laa illaaha illa Allaah.

EDIT: As for the criteria of judging if a Hadeeth is Saheeh or not then it is a very strict one.

And the Criteria which was used by Imaam Al Bukhaaree was the strictest in grading of Hadeeth. To this day the Muhaditheen (scholars of Hadeeth) write books on the criteria of Imaam al Bukhaaree in Hadeeth. Likewise Imaam Muslim who was a student of al Bukhaaree had a very strict and tough grading procedure for Hadeeth.

But delving into the science of Hadeeth is not an easy task. It requires knowledge of 'Ilm ar Rijaal, Jarh wa Ta'deel, 'illal and Ma'rifatul Hadeeth and more.

A person asked Shaykh Muhammad al-Madkhalee about why we didn't go into the Asaneed (chains of narration) when we have classes in the Dawraat. So the Shaykh replied in a previous dawrah the students asked to deal with the Asaaneed found in the books they were being taught. So it took one entire class going through the Sanad of one Hadeeth. That was before even touching on the Hadeeth. This is the strenuousness of the Science of Hadeeth, yet people here are so quick to mock it and degrade it. Allaahul Must'aan. If only the people knew the deepness of the science then they would surely keep their mouths shut.

  9. this Hadith is authentic in (Sahih Albukhari) and there's no contradiction with the Qur'an:

"Fight against such of those who have been given the Scripture as believe not in Allah nor the Last Day, and forbid not that which Allah hath forbidden by His messenger, and follow not the Religion of Truth, until they pay the tribute readily, being brought low" (9:29)

this Hadith was for those who abstain from paying zakat (pay a small portion of their excess wealth each year to help the needy or for other), those who did so, it's allowed to fight them.

  10. Assalam-u-Alaikum!

In Qur'an in Surah At-Taubah (Surah: 9, Ayat: 29), Allah Says:

    (29) Fight those who believe not in Allah nor the Last Day, nor hold that forbidden which hath been forbidden by Allah and His Messenger, nor acknowledge the religion of Truth, (even if they are) of the People of the Book, until they pay the Jizya with willing submission, and feel themselves subdued.

The Hadiths mentioned in authentic books of Sahih Bukhari and Sahih Muslim are considered as authentic.Hadiths mentioned in Sahih Bukhari have priority over the other. The criteria on which these hadiths were collected proves their authenticity. Please, read  how the collection of these hadiths was carried out it, it is very informative.
