THis common at restaurants....?

I am not kidding...dont they ever talk to one another?

lol.  i'm a server.. i had one couple like that the other day for lunch..  they were so unfriendly and had no personality what so ever..

I don't think they said a word to each other the entire meal... I tried my hardest just to get one of them to say 'thank you'  or even stop scowling.  I treated it as a challenge.. i had to get one to SMILE or anything..   NOPE, not one thanks.. not even a glance up at me... and then even left me 4 bucks!!  on a 30 somethin dollar check..

Why the f would you even go out in public, if you are that miserable with life?  just get a divorce already..

Sadly people are so unhappy in a relationship that they have nothing to talk about so sometimes sitting in silence is better than the bickering back and forth.

i was just talking about this the other day! i finally get it. i used to think like you do, but know i really get it.

when we go to eat (casual diner type) we often read the paper, or book that we have been reading. It is enjoyable to sit with one another and feel no pressure to entertain.

We talk all the time. we do everything together. we don't always stay quiet during a meal, but sometimes we do.

We are so very comfortable with each other it is like being with the same person. it is not boring. they are smart, incredibly funny, etc.

next time you notice this, see if you can pick out any "knowing glances", any shared familiarity, like the way they pass the salt. you may be surprised at how close these two are. in my case we read eachothers minds and for-tell eachothers needs.

PS: We also engage our server in conversation, tip well and are friendly in general. DOn't be alarmed or think we are unhappy, it is quite the reverse. It may not be that way with all couples who do not speak during a meal out, and i certainly would not dream of doing it during a really nice dinner....our time together is so mnuch more important. But take a look at a bigger pix, we open doors for eachother, light eachothers cigs, hold hands in pubic, cuddle together wtching a movie for the 5oth time in bed, read to one another. Talk politics,etc.

we are very happy. it is sometimes in those quite moments that we take a moment to adore one another. While apart we text e/o throughout the day. sometimes i cannot wait to get home. And no, this is not a new relationship.The easiest way to say it is that we met when we wree 12. we married others, divorced others, and now live happily together. If only we had known sooner! when asked, we tell people we have been together all our lives. so, if we are quiet in a cafe, trust that we are very busy being in love.

I'm a waitress and it is so uncomfortable to serve these people! It's like you can tell they're not really having a good time and they know you can tell. My boyfriend and I have been together over a year and go out to eat almost every single night. We always have something to say to each other! We're never like that unless the food is really good and we're chowing down (this usually happens at chipotle...we don't even look up from our burritos haha). Maybe these people have just run out of things to say to each other? Boring people.

God yes!  I've noticed this growing up and still see it.  It always freaked me out that people who used to claim they couldn't live without each other have turned that way and still call themselves a couple.  Actually, it still freaks me out.  Zombies.   :-)
