Visiting Rome in August and trying to decide what to see and do while there for best use of time. Heard little of this. Tell me about it, if you enjoyed it, etc.

  1. I went on this. It is a virtual ride, that really jerks you around. It kinda made my friends and I sick, but if this kind of thing doesn't bother you, then I would recommend it. If you don't know much about Roman history, it is really interesting!

    Have fun!!! Rome was beautiful.

  2. I've been to Italy 3 times and only visited Rome on the first visit.

A great cultual experience, one of the few places in the world where ancient and modern co-exist. One block you are visiting Trevia Fountain, the next block there is a Swatch store.

I took two days to see all of the museums, artwork, nitelife etc..., the other day I spent at the Vatican. One thing I regret not doing was taking a tour of the sewer/underground. From what I understand, they never knock anything down in Rome. Instead, they build on top so the city is literally layers of cultures and could be toured below the ground. Overall, I thought I had enough after two days. I had a similar experience in Milan.

On my other visits, while in Northern Italy, I spent most of my time in Bologna, Tuscanny, Venice and Florence. Pisa is ehh, Porto Fina is worth the trip.

  3. last summer my friend and i planned to go there every day but always got distracted by something else! it seem really great if you wanna get a feel of the roman history ..but if you wanna get a feel of the culture i suggest just exploring all of the piazzas and hidden alleys that rome has to offer. enjoy!!

and seriously you might want to reconsider going in august!

it is dead!! but hey maybe thats what yuor going for!

  4. depending on how much you know about history, it could be a waste of time.

I've never been to but I heard tourists talking about it.

  5. Yes, I went to the Time Elevator on the recommendation of my friend who had seen it a year or so earlier.

If you have a sound knowledge of Roman and Italian history then you probably would not gain much, but if you are a tourist with no special knowledge, or if you have children or teenagers with you, then it is probably a good idea. It's reasonably hi-tech and makes a change from the usual sightseeing.

  6. yes, but i prefer venice. rome had a lot of hobos and museums but it was ok.
