  1. Go slow and practice.  Don't play music when you first start driving or talk on a cell phone.  Concentrate on NOT hitting anything!!  You also need to have very fast reflexes.  Let me ask you a question:  You are driving on a 2 lane road.  You are driving on the left lane, there are 2 cars to your right just ahead of you.  The first car on the right slams on the breaks, what do you do?  If you answered hit the breaks too, you are correct.  The car behind him will panic and not have enough time to stop.  He will try to avoid hitting that car by jumping into your lane, and if you didn't stop, you can guess what will happen.  You have to learn small stuff like that if you are going to survive this.

  2. Well, the first thing I would say is that, once you have your permit, spend a good deal of time driving in an empty parking lot, until you get the feel of the car, the wheel, the brakes, etc.  Once you've played some, you'll have an idea of how far is too far for turns, and how hard is too hard for brakes.

That said, one thing that gave me a lot of trouble was staying straight between the lines.  I didn't cross the lines, but seemed to weave back and forth within them.  I finally found out that, following someone's advice, I was lining up the white line with a spot on the hood and following it.  This gave me difficulty, as I could look at the white line and hood, or what was in front of me, but not both.  Instead, I recommend visualizing yourself in the center of your lane.  That should put you within the lines, slightly away from center, and allow you to look straight ahead, while maintaining your position in the lane.

You'll also want to know the rules of the road.  Don't worry too much about those famous idiot questions that have no business being on tests, like whether Saturdays or Tuesdays incur more pedestrian accidents.  Instead, focus on things like right of way, overtaking and being overtaken, acceleration and deceleration lanes, and what to do when you encounter an Emergency vehicle. (Pull to the right and stop, no matter whether they're behind you or coming toward you.)  It's these rules of the road that will allow you to act correctly, and consistent with the expectations of other motorists, thereby avoiding accidents.

Then buckle up, adjust your mirrors, and practice, practice, practice.

  3. It's good to be nervous shows you are actually  thinking about but as driver for 13 years do what the signs say and don"t worry about what people think of ur driving if it's unsafe don't do it they are not the ones getting a ticket or acciden

  4. I think its good that your nervous. too many new drivers get behind the wheel thinking this is no big deal. they are the ones that cause accidents.
