so with my birthday coming (yeah) I am looking to get a TIVO cause I have a three year old son who has limited my tv viewing to very little lol :D I always stay up late flipping through c**p tv so I was like 'hey i could watch Dr. Phil at 11pm instead of paid programming!" question though - if i am watching a show at 9pm on channel 4 but there is something on channel 5 i want to wtch at 9pm too can I watch the show on channel 4 while TIVO records the channel 5.... very confused about this ;-)

  1. Both the Series 2 (non-high definition) and the Tivo HD are dual tuner - meaning you can record two shows at once (and watch either one, or watch a show recorded previously).

    It's probably more of an issue with WHAT source you are hooking up to the Tivo. Seeing as you mentioned channels 4 and 5, I'll assume you are on a cable or satellite package. Tivo is not going to work with satellite, and the connection options are different between analog and digital cable. Don't let that scare you, the Tivo setup and Tivo customer service are great for help, and if you aren't sure - just give them a call beforehand and tell them what cable you have and how you want to watch it. They will help get you setup.


  2. Yes, as long as you get a Tivo that has a dual tuner, (like the latest HD Tivo does), you can watch one channel while recording another. You can also record 2 channels, while you watch something that you already have recorded.
