Question:

TNT for car fuel?

Why can't we use explosives like TNT for car fuel? Wouldn't making chemical explosives be cheaper and make us independent on the natural reserves of oil?

I know explosives can be... well... explosive. But people are smart. Can't we figure out a way to control that explosiveness and use it in tiny doses for engines?

  1. Are you serious? Imagine the nightmare of a Ted Kazenski out there with "fuel" for his car making mail bombs! At least gasoline has weight and volume to make it unsuitable for this purpose.

Your statement "But people are smart" is giving a lot of credit where it isn't due. Look at the people that burn their houses down with a can of gasoline in the garage leaking fumes.

Ignoring all of the nightmare security issues, all explosives leave a residue (usually carbon, etc) that would need to be cleaned (scraped) out of the cylinders after each "bang". At 3000 RPM, an 8 cylinder engine would require 6000 "charges" per minute to fire off. Would you want to clean the inside of your engine every hour?

I worry about humanity when questions like this come up.

  2. It would be a BANG of a time huh!!!!

    lol

  3. then chemical must be more powerful, efficient than gas. that might be the problem.

  4. I think they are now using it to Iraq.

But the problem is the suicide bombers are the victims

  5. You must be under the influence of something because any sober person wouldn't even begin to propose something so unethical, impractical, and just plain stupid!
