  1. Tofu can be delicious, if prepared correctly. I love it in Sweet & Sour soup. :) I personally can not prepare it without it tasting horrid, but it is fantastic in stir fries and soups. So I say YUMMY! :D

  2. tofu taste like what ever you marinate it with or cook it with. So sometimes yum and sometimes ill.

  3. yummy if you cook it in something to replace something like chicken. It absorbs the flavor of what you cook it in. Has an interesting texture too like a really soft cheese.

  4. EWW.

  5. As another answerer has already said, it depends on how you cook/use it.  Another variable is what kind of tofu you use.  There are several different kinds-- silken, firm, extra firm, etc.  As I'm sure you can already guess, each kind of tofu has a different texture.  Silken tofu is the softest kind of tofu, firm tofu is firmer than silken, and extra firm tofu is even firmer.  I would say that firm tofu is probably the most versatile kind of tofu and can be used in many dishes, but is usually used for main entrees, but many meals.  It can be baked, grilled, sauteed, steamed, or even scrambled!  (I have even made a recipe for a healthier substitute for coconut-cream pie, which uses mainly tofu as the filling!  And believe it or not, it was delicious!  =D)  Silken tofu is usually used for desserts, but it is probably most frequently used in SMOOTHIES!  I unfortunately have never seen or heard of a recipe that requires extra firm tofu, so I can't tell you any definite, exact uses for it, but I would assume it would be used for similar uses as firm tofu.

  6. YUMMY!!!  but you have to flavor it well, because by itself it has no taste

  7. It depends on how you cook it. I can make it yummy, even my kids eat it.

  8. It the best , soak it in soy and ginger ,crushed garlic. First slice it or cube it .The longer you soak it the more flavor it will have . If you like sherry add a little ,little goes a long way, Good luck its SO YUMMMMMMMYYYYY . then grill it or pan fry it in a little oil or mix it with stir fry veggies .

  9. yummy, it depends how u make it, it really healthy cause it made outta soy beans, nothings wrong with it if u add some flavor, chinese food stores are the best at it =]

  10. I say eww.

  11. eww - got to be Keen, and a Good  Cook.Lol

  12. Yummy sometimes.

Tofu tastes like what you cook it with, its the texture that you have to get just right in order for it to be really great.  Sometimes it can be spongy and sometimes it can be rubbery too...if cooked just right it will have a similar consistancy to cooked chicken.  Try it, but you gotta try it more that once in different dished at different places. Cause like I said it varies so much on wether it will be good or not.

  13. If you've ever eaten hot & sour soup at a Chinese restaurant and had little white cubes in the soup, you've eaten tofu. Tofu alone has very little flavor, so it takes on the flavors of whatever it's served with.

Myself, I'm indifferent to it - not going to rush to my grocer to buy some, though.

  14. It depends a lot on what kind of tofu is being used and how it's prepared.

There's what I call "regular" tofu, which is generally refrigerated at the store.  It comes in a variety of densities, most commonly firm and extra firm.   It's great for everyday cooking -- using chunks of it in a stirfry or slices as a sandwich filling, for example.   I use it often.

I prefer the extra firm, and like it to be frozen and dethawed before using it.  That way, you can press out the excess water much more easily.  This gives the tofu a more chewy (more meat-like, I guess) texture.   I always marinate it first, and the tofu, being somewhat bland in itself, takes on the flavor of the marinade wonderfully.   Then, I usually broil or bake it, but it can also be pan fried, deep fried or grilled.  It's really pretty versatile. Just remember these easy steps:  Freeze, Dethaw, Press, Marinate and Cook.  In my opinion, these are the steps to tasty tofu.  Tofu first-timers should definitely not skip the marinate part.

There's also silken tofu which is not usually refrigerated and often comes in box.  It also comes in a variety of densities and has a much softer texture. It's a little gelatinous, for lack of a better word. That's why it's most useful for making things like not-Cheesecake and dips or for serving as an egg replacer in some baking recipes.  I don't like it for anything else, so it's not often I that I actually use it.  It's probably not a good idea for a tofu first-timer to go buy a box and try to figure out what to do with it...that probably won't go well and could turn a person off to tofu forever.

  15. delicious i had some for lunch

  16. EWW......... well it actually depends on how you make it but my mom doesn't make it good. :)

  17. Surprinsigly, it's not so bad. It's actually good :)

  18. YUMMMMMMMMY!  I LOVE tofu!  It doesn't have a taste, that's what's so great about it.  It takes on the flavor of what you are making it with, so you can make it taste like whatever you want!  Plus, it's so versatile, from firm tofu for things like stir fries, to silken tofu which makes things like pudding.

  19. It absorbs the flavors of  whatever it is cooked in or with. =)
