Put listings on craigslist and backpage.com, and don't forget to post signs from the closest main road to your house.

Newspapers are another good option, but usually you have to place the ad a couple of days in advance.

I just had a garage sale: I made $220 and here are some tips:

Always have someone else there with you! Lots of people work garage sales alone, and that can be a dangerous situation given the right circumstances. If you can't get someone or need to use a couple people to do a few hours, don't work it by yourself.

Put the more costly items closer to where you are going to be. Put the stuff that you don't care if it walks off, at the fringes. Sad to say, but some people would rather steal something than pay a dime for it...

Have a lot of change on hand.

Put up lots of very clearly marked signs from the major road by your house and on every corner to your house. Clearly mark these which direction to go. Put a couple balloons on them to attract attention.

Call Goodwill to come and pick up all the stuff you couldn't sell, that way you don't have to put it all away!
