  1. your skates could very well be too small, but that would not cause you to go on your toepick. your leaning too far forward. almost all skaters do this when they learn to spin. it just takes practice to fix. beginner skates should usually last through single jumps, depending on quality, but if your feet have grown you should replace them.

  2. OMG! That's totally what I do. I can probably assure you that you're leaning on your toe pick not because your skates are too small! I just got new Jackson Artiste skates, and I still lean on my toe pick! The problem is that we're leaning forward to much, trying to keep our balance. My coach always tells me to try to stay on the ball of my foot (The thick piece of skin where your toes connect to your foot.) That way, you have good balance, and you don't fall forward :). For your small ice skates, you might want to consider getting new ones soon. Considering you are working on your one foot spin, you probably aren't in Free skate (or Freestyle) yet, and you will definitely want new skates by the time you go on to Free skate.

    Hope I helped!

  3. i had this problem when i changed from my sad old broken down boots to my good strong ones :P it takes a while to get used to the new support in them...

for me, apparently, the back of my boots were so broken down that when i spun in them i lent my weight to the front (on the tongue) for support... weird yea? so then when i started spinning in the new boots, i had the needed support but now i had this bad habit, and just rocked onto the toe-pick.

don't worry, you'll re-adjust, it just might take a while.

to get back into it, you need to find the sweet spot on your blade again. to do this, try this.

start as you would a two foot spin.

pump into the spin but keep your free leg out to the side on the ice, focusing on keeping centred on your skating leg.

once you get this down, lift your free leg off the ice.

work up to doing a basic upright spin from there.

for me it took about a month to get my scratch spin back, but thats just me...

good luck, i hope you enjoy the new boots :)

  4. Definately leaning too far. If your skates are too small you'll know about it, the're like shoes in that respect, they hurt when they're too small
