  1. Spring time is the time for tornadoes but actually they can happen any time the atmospheric conditions are right, warm meets cold.

It sure seems like this country has been ravaged with a lot of them. Some say the news media is hyping it up a bit but this unusual extreme weather has been happening every since the middle to late 90s so it looks like it has been ongoing now for 10 years or so. You live in Wyoming, the land of the open rolling plains on the western frontier. I thought the wind never stopped there. Button down the hatches.

  2. According to your description of the day, this is what happened:

1.)There was a stationery band (front) of warm air over your area.

2.) Over the course of the morning, a strong cold front blew in.

3.) The cold front clashed with the warm front and caused severe thunderstorms over your area.

4.) The severe storms spawned hail and tornadoes.

5.) During the storms, the strong cold front pushed the warm front out of your area, and produced low temperatures in your area.

6.) The low temperature caused the precipitation later in the day to turn into snow.

Yeah that does sound like a pretty weird day!  I hope you can get your electricity back...
