TP Sudhindra to consult lawyers after being banned for life by BCCI – Cricket News Update
Madhya Pradesh pacer http://www.senore.com/Cricket/TP-Sudhindra-c2706 has declined to comment on his next move after being banned for life by the BCCI on spot-fixing charges, claiming that he plans to consult with his lawyers before coming out with a statement.
“I will come out with the true story soon. Let me talk to my lawyer first. I don't want another youngster to be trapped like me,” he said.
Sudhindra was implicated earlier this year in May, when he, along with four other players, were named in a sting operation carried out by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 TV during this year’s Indian Premier League, which revealed that match-fixing, spot-fixing, and black money transactions
were rampant not only in the league, but also in the Indian domestic circuit.
The 28-year-old, who is affiliated with the Deccan Chargers, played three games for the franchise this season, during which he claimed one scalp and conceded 136 runs. In addition, he is affiliated with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Madhya-Pradesh-c809, for whom he remained the top wicket-taker
during the 2011-12 http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Kumar-Shri-Ranjitsinhji-c71870 Trophy.
He was accused, during the sting, of “receiving a consideration to spot-fix” during a domestic game, an allegation which he later admitted was true.
“I regret my wrongdoing,” he said in conversation with the Sunday Express. He admitted to having accepted Rs 5,000 in exchange for bowling deliberate no-balls during a domestic game. He also pointed out that he despite his family’s tight financial
situation, he had declined an offer for Rs 1 crore (US$ 175,450) during the sting operation.
“People don't realise the financial state my family was in. I was trapped,” he said. “But I did decline an eight-figure offer made by the same people.”
The BCCI set up an inquiry committee to look into the incident and allegations of corruption. The body was headed by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/RD-Shah-c2298 Sawani, who is also heading the BCCI’s newly-established anti-corruption unit. A written report was submitted to the board’s disciplinary
committee on June 9, and on the basis of the findings, the board issued Sudhindra a life-ban from the sport – the harshest punishment meted out to any one of the five players who were implicated.
