  1. Cross country is your sport. With your running that you did over the summer, you absolutely have a chance of being great in this sport.

  2. track and field will never make you run more than 2 miles. and most districts only go up to 1 mile. a 5 mile run should make you ready for any running event, but try now timing your 5 mile run and divide it by 3. now run 3 miles in the result. this gets you into more dash-paced events. you are probably set for track.

as for field, you get in shape in about 2 days on any event. its pretty easy to do well in field events.

  3. Why don't you try cross country? All you run is about 2 miles in a meet.

  4. the way you describe it, experience is not needed. all you need is a specialty in track or cross and you should be a competitor.

  5. If your heart is in it than all you'll need is someone to training you the right way.  You will gain the experience as you go along.  Talk to your track coach at school and he or she will be able to set up a training program for you.  Good luck.
