this year (2008). Just trying to gather some #'s here....as to injuries on the dangerous "toys" , they call trampolines. If your child has been injured, let me know and and what was injured. The #1 reason children are seen in Emergency Rooms in America are because of them!!! They are so dangerous!

  1. My sister was jumping on one with her friends, they got a little wild, one girl fell over on my sister causing my sis to fall and break one of the bones in her foot.

  2. Of all the people I know with them none of their kids have gone to the emergency room from them.

We have one but we also have the safety net. A child can get hurt doing just about anything. My daughter has been hurt worse running full boar across the house and falling into a stool than doing things on our trampoline.

  3. They are dangerous if you kids don't follow rules about how to use them.  We only allow 2 on the trampoline at a time - and that only if they are jumping properly - safely.

We have had a trampoline for over 10 years (with 4 kids) and ZERO injuries.  I grew up with one and don't remember any injuries that required medical treatment.

Everything is dangerous if not used properly.

  4. My cousin was injured on a trampoline about 10 years ago. She fractured her ankle at the growth plate and is now disabled from it. Her lawsuit just settled... $200,000 later, i definately would not consider having a trampoline at my house. Not unless anyone who wanted to jump on it had their parents sign waivers to not sue. Messy situation that can haunt you in years to come. For those of you who DO have trampolines, I encourage you to set guidelines and rules for participation on your trampoline if you do not wish to take it down. And if you're considering purchasing one, think about if you want your homeowners insurance sued.

  5. My neighbors have one. My kids have never been injured on one but they have jumped on the neighbors a few times. They have the netting all around and one at a time rules.

There are hundreds of ways kids can get hurt. My son broke his arm when he fell out of a tree he was climbing while at a friends house.

I think trampolines are ok if parents take safety measures like netting and set rules for using them.

  6. i don't know any # but i know you are right ///

  7. My best friend's daughter broke her arm on one a couple of years ago.  Last summer, my neighbor injured her back and neck on one- we were   terrified she seriously injured.  Luckily, she was just extremely stiff and sore for a few weeks- it was a close call.  I won't let my eight year old have one.

  8. No kidding.  I used to do really dumb things with my trampoline when I had one-- like jump from the roof on the the tramp, or jump from the tramp into a pool, or jump from my tramp over a fence onto my neighbor's tramp.  It's very dangerous.  I never broke a bone, but I've had a ton of close calls.

Other than the stupid things I did, I gave myself whiplash of the neck and spine on several occasions.  Very painful and whined to my mom to take care of me.  When I have a kid of my own, I will never buy him/her a trampoline.  LOL.

  9. There is no doubt that trampolines can be dangerous. They are also a lot of fun and a great way to get healthy exercise which many people need. Most people get hurt because they do NOT know how to use a trampoline correctly. It looks easier than it really is and the “bouncy” mat looks more forgiving than it really is. Many people think that the nets they put around their trampolines make them accident proof but that is not true. The most serious trampoline injuries occur from landing in the middle of the mat but landing badly such as for example on the head or neck. No net will protect against that.

The best safety investment to prevent trampoline mishaps is KNOWLEDGE of correct and safe usage. If you have a trampoline at home, encourage your children to take a few lessons at a gymnastic school or at least read a book on trampolining or perhaps even better watch a good trampoline instructional video. Most parents would not allow their children to scuba dive, or rock climb, or hang glide without first getting some instruction about safety and correct practices. What most parents do NOT know is that trampolining is just as risky as these other high risk sports and should be undertaken only with a like amount of prudent preparation and instruction in safe fundamentals. Trying advanced skills such as flips without thoroughly mastering fundamental basic trampoline skills first is another reason that trampoline injuries sometimes occur on home trampolines.

Nets and other safety gimmicks can sometimes be useful but BEFORE spending a lot of money on a net, first spend only a fraction of that amount on lessons at a local gymnastic school or at least a book or DVD on safe and correct trampolining. AFTER you have done that, you can still buy safety accessories such as a net. But lessons or a good DVD should be your first priority.

In my opinion, the best instructional and safety DVD available is:

TRAMPOLINE TRAINING FOR BODY MIND & SPIRIT WITH WORLD TRAMPOLINE CHAMPION DAN MILLMAN

It thoroughly covers correct trampoline safety practices and shows the correct order and correct execution of trampoline skills from basic to advanced. It is available for FREE viewing in many public libraries and can also be purchased from many gymnastics dealers such as Deary Gymnastics supply at :
