I am about to buy a 100 gallon tank, and it is going to have the following fish in it:

• 4 Dwarf gouramis

• 3 Angelfish

• 6 Blue Rams

• 6 Peppered cory cats

• 6 Otos

• 1 Red-tail black shark

• 10 Black Ruby Barbs

• 10 Tiger Barbs

Is this community compatible? I am getting another 10 gallon for any aggressive fish if they get aggression... so yeah... thanks any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

  1. The angels fins may be nipped.  The rams may be a little aggressive when breeding (but these are generally peacefull even when breeding). The barbs, cory cats, otos, and gouramis will all get along fine. The red tailed shark is fairly boisterous and may bother the angels and gouramis.

    Good luck.

  2. You stock looks fine, the only fish there that sometimes show aggression are the barbs, which tend to nip at the fins of other fish like the long fins of the angels, just watch them.

Most people overfeed their fish, you should feed so that all the food is eaten in about five minutes. Get some pills for the bottom feeders like the cories, ( aqua plus or similar ) . The cories will keep the bottom clean.

Sudden temperature changes and using fresh tap water to top up are the two biggest dangers for fish.

Have some spare water available that has stood for 24 hrs or more to top up, and make sure it has the same temperature as the tankwater.

  3. I'm really new to keeping fish, however I've found this site really useful. It's free to register and it has a community creator tool, where you select the fish you want to include and it tells of you of compatibility issues.

  4. The Dwarves and this Red Tail Black Shark might cause some issues, it all depends, but for sure that you are going to have issues with those Tiger Barbs and the Angels.  While Tiger Barbs are a nice looking fish that needs to school, they are bad at fin nipping and you can count on those slower moving Angels to get harassed.  Even if you didn't get Angels, the Tigers would most likely bother someone else.  While they are really aggressive, not the word I'd use, they are more like harassers.  They will exert some stress on the other fish.  Maybe substitute out those Tiger Barbs with a nice looking Tetra with the same number.

  5. you might just get away with it in such a large tank. each fish will have 2 gallons or so to itself.

make sure you cycle this tank thoroughly. you have a lot of money in fish. maybe use some feeder guppies. once the tank is cycled, the angels will take care of baby guppies.

  6. I'd have everything but the barbs, they have a nasty habit of nipping the fins of fish like angels, even though angels can hold their own, you don't want a fight on your hands!

Pretty much play it by ear adding them gradually, lots of people will tell you what is and what isn't compatable but every tank is different and some things work when on paper, they shouldn't.

    I have a 180litre tank with

    2 angels

    1 dwarf gourami

    2 opaline gouramis

    2 honey gouramis

    1 male siamese fighter

    3 neon tetras

    2 firemouth cichlids

    4 algae eaters

    2 golden danios

    2 silver danios

    1 bristlenose plec

    1 plec

The tank has been hosting this community peacefully for eight months and the only deaths have been two neons!

  7. barbs tend to be nippy, so the angels might be in danger. possibly the rams, too. you could have 10 tetras (not neons/cardinals, angelfish eat them) and 10 danios instead. or 20 assorted livebearers. you could also add a few more otos and put in some live plants
