Question:

TRUCK DRIVERS! Why do you honk at me?

Four weeks ago, I started a 30-minute commute from one city to the next. During my commute, I get honked at by drivers of 18-wheeled trucks, at least once a day. They usually honk at me after I pass them on their left. I don't think they are honking because I'm in their way, since they never merge into my lane after I pass them. Can someone please tell me any possible reasons why they do this? Did someone put a big "honk at me" sticker on the back of my car?

  1. are you wearing a short skirt ?

they may be seeing more of you than you think

  2. OH, PLEASE!  Truck drivers will honk at just about anything that RESEMBLES a female, so don't get TOO excited.

  3. Are you as pretty as your picture?

  4. hooooooooooooonk, I never did that before and I don't know why I did it, I'm sorry.

    you must be a cutie.

  5. You must be hot mama. wooooo

  6. Here's the deal. Truckers are very simple. It does not matter what you are wearing, if you have a pretty face and a reasonable body, you will get their attention. If you are wearing something s**y, you will simply get their attention faster. I used to have a pickup truck with a CB in it. A CB antenna is very noticeable. I used to talk to truckers all the time, but my wife (a looker, by the way) wanted nothing to do with talking to them. However, one day when she was driving my truck alone, she told me later that there were a number of truckers who saw the antenna and were literally hanging out their windows with their microphones trying to get her to talk to them. Sadly, that is when she decided to get over her shyness and talk back to them. Perhaps that is why she is my ex. Anyway, my point is that truckers are very interested in females driving in cars, especially cute ones. Wedding rings are not an issue, in fact when they look at you, their mind is busy undressing you and bending your naked, tingling, and willing body over the passenger seat of their truck and airbrushing the wedding ring out of their mental picture of you. Mind you, this is their fantasy, hopefully not yours. You don't look like the type to hang out at truck stops.

  7. I spent a lot of time in trucks, both as a passenger and driver.  I know many of the drivers would honk at women driving alone, to get their attention.  Many times it was to get a smile in return, more than hoping to bang her in the passenger seat, but that certainly happened as well.  Don't pay them any attention.

As for drivers being simple, while they don't typically have Ph.D's, they're not exactly simple.  Driving a truck is highly involved and the most successful truckers are highly intelligent.  Choosing to be a truck driver is a choice, not something you're forced into because you scored below average on an internet IQ test...

  8. put your top back on..

  9. While they might be having fun with you, it could be they think you are cutting them off also. Remember trucks need more reaction time so people who don't signal or leave enough room before moving back into the lane in front of them are not appreciated.

  10. I have to wonder if "Me Again" isn't a bit bias in his writings.

Having spent the better part of thirty years behind the wheel of a truck, I resent being called "simple".  It's like any occupation,  there are as many different personalities as there are people doing the job.  If you were being honked at, it was probably out of either appreciation, or frustration.

Unknowingly, you may have been in the truck driver's blind spot... and there are a bunch of them around a truck.  He may have wanted to change lanes and realized that  you were there.  Most truck drivers try to maintain a constant speed.  If we have to slow down 5 mph, it could take us a mile or more to get it back, and this is a direct influence on traffic flow.  Please don't get me wrong... I am not blaming you for anything, but alot of people run alongside trucks and don't realize how dangerous it can be for them.

    As for "Me Again's" comment regarding our droolling and being a bunch of leacherous creatons,  I can only speak for myself.... I have never showed anything but respect to others on the road.  "Hanging" around truckstops isn't such a bad thing.... ask all the female truck drivers out there.  I can say that I wouldn't mind spending time elsewhere, but it's hard to park a 75' long truck at the local Olive Garden.  :-}

  11. Probably since you are so much lower than they are, they could see down your shirt and were honking in appreciation!

You really think a trucker is going to care that you have a wedding ring on??  Just like construction workers whistling and whooping at a hot babe passing by, they honk.  So give them a wave and smile, and make their day!

  12. That's funny b/c They honk at me as well.

I drive a small car and I thought they honk b/c they want to change lanes.

When they honk, I saw that they change lanes right after.

So, check if they do the same when they honk at you....
