Question:

TSA Thieves?

Lots of stories of the TSA stealing things from people when they are searched at airports. A friend of my father's had $1200 in jewelry stolen and when she complained, they covered for the lady who stole it. Anyone hear anything else about this?

Should this and the fact that more weapons are making it past security in airports than before 9/11 warrant the discontinuation of the TSA?

  1. I'm with Ted.  I fly all the time  between Detroit and Dallas and I have never had a problem.  But, that may be because I'm not stupid to give them a hard time and because I have TSA clearances.  h**l, I'm even allowed to take large bottles of shampoo and body wash with me.

I have found that with the TSA it is the same as with shippers and receivers (I drive a truck for a living), you catch more flies with honey than vinegar.

  2. I travel almost every week and never had a problem.  Then again I'm not dumb enough to carry that much $$ in jewelry with me.

Why didn't she file a police report?

  3. First off, your airline ticket clearly states that the airline is not responsible for the theft of jewelry, electronics or cash. Was the stuff stolen from check in luggage or while she was going through through the security checkpoint? In any event, if you don't file a police report, don't expect much and even then...don't expect much. In 2003, video cameras recorded a Miami screener stealing CD's from checked luggage. But criminal charges were dropped after the screener's lawyer made it clear that he planned to ask a government official about T.S.A. operations at the trial.

Basically, the agency did not want to be asked any embarrassing questions and the guy walked.

Moral of the story - carry ANYTHING you consider valuable on your person and watch them like a hawk when you go through the checkpoint. Yes, there have even been thefts right under the passengers nose. Sickening!
