I experienced ovulation spotting two weeks ago. I spotted brown discharge for two days...Sunday and Monday. I had s*x on Tuesday. I've done my research and supposedly you spot right before ovulation from the increase in hormones. My question is, would I have ovulated a day after my last day of spotting? Which would have been on Tuesday. I have a VERY irregular period so when I noticed this spotting, that's what I thought it was. I also didn't want to have s*x on those days because I thought it was my period!! :( I'm worried that I missed my window but my period hasn't come yet. Isn't it supposed to come two weeks after you ovulate, even with an irregular cycle? I'm waiting until next Monday to go to the Dr. I just really need some hope and reassurement that it could still be my month. Thanks for any help and your answers are truly appreciated. Baby Dust to those TTC... and Congrats to those that already have!!

BTW I found out it was ovulation spotting through my DR. So I know it couldn't have been implantation bleeding.

  1. Once you ovulate your period would arrive 11 to 17 days later.  It is different for each woman.  Regardless of the length of your cycle or if you are irregular, if you ovulated  your period would arrive 11 to 17 days later.  The only time your period does not arrive in this time frame after ovulation is if you conceived or have a cyst.

Unless you chart your waking temperature, there is no way to tell what day you ovulated on.  A best guess would be that you ovulated on day 80 or 81.

If you weren't successful this time, here's some advice for next time:

The only day you can conceive is when you ovulate. The day you ovulate, your body releases the egg. The egg lives a maxium of 24 hours. However, sperm can live up to five days in fertile cervical mucus but most live three days. Your fertile phase are the 3-4 days prior to ovulation and the day of ovulation. In order to maximize your chances of getting pregnant, you would have s*x every 24 hours during this time. Unless you think your partner has low sperm count, then you would have s*x every other day during your fertile phase.   So for you:  the next time you see the ovulation spotting start having s*x that day. When you are experiencing the spotting, you are very fertile.

Since you have PCOS and are trying to get pregnant, you really should make an appointment with a reproductive endocrinologist (RE).  They are specialists and would be much better able to help you then a regular OBGYN.  They also monitor you very closely.  An RE would have done a blood test 7 days after your spotting to confirm ovulation.  It is best that you find an RE that is knowledgeable about PCOS.

Check out this website:  http://www.inciid.org/faq.php?cat=infert...  It has info on PCOS and specialists.

    Good luck!

  2. It sounds like you did exactly the right thing. If spotting occurs right before you ovulate, then Tuesday should have been a perfect time to have s*x. And, yes, you ovulate 2 weeks after you started your period. I'm glad you're seeing your doctor, though, b/c irregular periods aren't a good sign when you're TTC :(  Hopefully it's nothing, though. We've been TTC since May of '07 and I use the Fertile-Focus Ovulation Microscope. It shows when you're ovulating via a saliva sample. Makes it super-easy to see when you should be TTC. Good luck!! :)

  3. Hey there!  Just curious, do you have a Reproductive Endocrinologist as your doctor?  They are much more knowledgable about PCOS and fertility struggles.  I have a Reproductive Endo (i have pcos) and she's awesome!!  My cycles were 40-60 days and that's not normal, so I was never ovulating.  79-85 day cycles just to ovulate seems like a long time!! Are u sure u are even ovulating?  I kept thinking that I was and my cycle was just extremely long, but I wasn't and it was time wasted... well except for all the bding with the hubby... that's always fun! lol.  I wish the best for you in whatever you choose to do!! Good Luck and Baby Dust!!  :o)

edit: Well since you know it was for sure ovulation, I'm REALLY hoping for ya!!!!  we'll get our lil one's someday, even if we do have pcos!! :o)

edit2:  That abundant CM might just be a good sign! There are lots of ladies on here that said they had lots of it and turned out pregnant! Our bodies do weird things sometimes and pcos complicates it even further, but don't give up :o)  If you ovulated you should find out soon, because usually @ the earliest, 14 days after ovulation you can test.  That still could be too early though.  You just never know, but stay positive.  PCOS is a pain in the @ss, but I'm determined to get pregnant!!  :o)  All the luck in the world to ya!! Email me if you have any more questions or just feel like chattin!!  :o)

  4. Has your GYN done testing to make sure you don't have PCOS? Irregular periods are common symptom of this. Also, after a year is when they are willing to start you on clomid (low level fertility drug) to help you grow follicles and ovulate, so maybe consider speaking to him about this at your appointment.
