Question:

TTC- Do you prefer OPK's or BBT charting (and why)?

I've used opk's (actually I conceived that month but miscarried)... I know they work, but at this obsessive point in trying to get pregnant again I'm considering trying the BBT method- not only to pin point ovulation, but also to see whats goin on with my luteal phase and this 4 day "prespotting" before my period bologna... From what I understand if my temp drops before 14 days I have a luteal phase defect (not sure if thats fact or fiction though)... I'm a bit worried, however, that temping is just gonna give me one more thing to stress about (and obsessively read into). Any suggestions?

  1. I highly recommend doing both.  The opk's give you the heads up and the BBT confirms it for you, it's a win win!

  2. I prefer BBT because my fertility specialist told me they prove that you ovulated (or didn't).  You can get a OPK+ and not ovulate.  So I've chosen to use them together but rely more on the BBT.

It is true that it can help you identify luteal phase issues also.  Most doctors like to see a luteal phase of 12 days or more, but also don't really consider it a luteal phase defect until it's 10 days or shorter.  Your temps should stay above the coverline for that the full luteal phase.  From charting I found that mine is 10-11 days and I'm on progesterone this cycle to lenghten that.

    Good luck!!!
