Question:

TTC... how much Vitamin C is too much?

Me and my husband are ttc but I've heard too much Vitamin C can cause cervical mucus to dry up, but just the right amount can cause it to improve. I'm currently taking prenatal vitamins but I like drinking orange juice in the morning. I don't want to cut off using my prenatal vitamins but I'm a few days from ovulating.

Any ideas on what's the "right" amount of vitamin c? I don't want to overload!

  1. 2000mg is not the recommended dosage!  Women should avoid megadoses of vitamin C because it can dry up cervical fluid, preventing sperm from reaching the egg. Limit the amount you take to the dose included in your prenatal vitamin.

I have my fiance on 1000mg a day however, as it is good for sperm.

    All the best x*x

  2. Don't worry about the Vitamin C consumption at all assuming you are only supplementing with prenatals.  The prenatal multi-vitamin that you are taking will barely have much Vitamin C to begin with (300mg). However, orange juice will have lots.

I think ideal (maximum) dosage  is 2000mg. Good luck.

Edit: That is the maximum dosage suggested for women.  My suggestion was to just take prenatal vitamin and don't worry about Vitamin C consumption in other foods.
