TTCB president lauds 2011 Premiership T20 success
President of Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board (TTCB), Azim Bassarath, is much delighted at 2011 Premiership T20 Festival’s landmark success and he terms the event as a great breakthrough for the progress the local cricket. The tournament has been concluded
recently at Guaracara Park with Queen’s Park as winner for the third time.
The tournament received very positive public response as massive crowd were seen at the venue during all matches, thanks to the new video technology that the event organizers used to grab public attention.
The newly introduced role of the third umpire in the tournament matches was also greatly successful as it reduced the possibility of wrong decision making by the field umpire.
Bassarath told some media persons today that the TTCB had marketed the tournament at a large scale beforehand and reluctantly, they got huge sponsorship that enable them to award heavy amounts of prize money to the winners and losers alike.
He said that it was due to the sponsorship that they bore the tournament cost worth of $750, 000.
The president also revealed that it was for the first time in the history of TT cricket that an event was broadcast live by a TV channel, WI Sports, around the zone.
The tournament featured young cricketers from the entire region in a effort to encourage the emerging talent and spread the game to the commoners.
The event brought alight many brilliant cricketers that can be selected for the national team in future.
Bassarath believes that the the success of the tournament is evident of the fact that the locals have great passion for cricket. He thinks that such type of events are essential for the development of cricket. He is quite happy and satisfied to have given
opportunity to the unknown and uncapped young players.
The president hailed the marvellous struggle of Queen’s Park who remained consistent and impressive throughout the 9-day event. He also expressed best wishes for the future editions of the tournament.
Premiership T20 festival started on May 19 and finished on Sunday, May 29.
