TURN PLANET INTO SUN?

Hey, I just read battlefield earth and i was wondering if you could actually in some way turn any planet into a sun (star). (yes, i know that psychlo had been covered with breath gas for that to happen) Pretty impossible theory but you never know. Thanks.

  1. It's practically impossible to do this.stars generate huge inner amounts of gas in order to keep it's fire.even when a star is old enough she generates too many gas so it explodes.a planet has been previously a "fire ball" and it took years to become a solid body.Hope i helped you somehow.bye

  2. As Andrew indicated, it's a matter of mass, and by extension, gravitation.  The Sun is a big ball of gas, that's so big that the atoms that make up the gas generate a huge amount of gravitational pull, towards the center of the ball.  Basically, what's needed for fusion is heat and pressure.

This "pull towards the center" is strong enough to shove the hydrogen atoms (the atoms that make up the majority of the mass of the Sun) together so closely, that they fuse into helium atoms.  This is known as nuclear (pronounced "new-clee-ar" and not "nu-ku-lar") fusion, the same process that occurs in a thermonuclear explosion.  The sun doesn't blow up because, again, the gravity is so strong that it contains the explosion.

The other factor contributing to this stability, or "equilibrium", is the radiation that the Sun gives off.  This radiation is electromagnetic radiation (and some particles), the same radiation that makes up heat and light.

The only thing that is different about the radiation that you feel as warmth (down in the red-end of the spectrum) and the radiation that allows us to take xrays (a bit lower than blue), is the frequency. But, that leads to another explanation altogether.

    Hope that helped.

  3. It might be possible to turn a superjovian into a star, but nothing smaller

  4. u would have to change the composition of the core into a nuclear reactor some how

keep it spinning be big enuff to hold the gases together and get rid of the oxygen and nitrogen content, and maker more helium

    thats all!

  5. If it would be possible it would only work with planets like like Jupiter, planets that are gas giants. They would probably have to add lots of hydrogen to it to, and somehow get it to spin faster.
