  1. Don't do the tour associated with the ship. Book this tour separately with Native Way Water Sports or with Captain Marvin's. Both will be cheaper and give you a much better tour.

The ship tour generally has as many as 75 people crammed on their boat. Native Way and Captain Marvin's both limit their tour to about 25 people. I have personally used Native Way and have sent clients to both Native Way and Captain Marvin's with excellent feedback from both.

Yes, it is worth the money. Check their websites for current costs and to make reservations.

  2. Hey There! I'm going to Grand Cayman next week (woohoo!). We're doing a private Sting Ray City tour so we can avoid the crowds and high cost of the cruise ship tours. We're doing the Moby d**k tour (www.mobydicktours.com)! It's $40 a person and they take you to see and feed the sting rays in a small group and then to go snorkeling. It's about 3 hours. They also provide free water and fruit punch. Check them out! Have fun! :)

  3. We did Stingray City years ago with Carnival.  It was about $50/person then, I think.  This was probably at least 12-15 years back, too.

It was interesting, and it's fun to do once.  I probably wouldn't go back, though.  The whole schtick was that the boat takes about 200 people out to a shoal where the stingrays have learned to swarm when a boat shows up, and you're given a little bit of food to give them.  You can also get a mask and fins to swim with them if you like.  The rays vary in size from dinner plate to maybe 4-5 feet across.  They will not hurt you, but they sure look menacing somehow.

But having done it once, I probably wouldn't go back.  Been there, done that, have the T-shirt and sunburn.

    Oh, yeah - take sunscreen.

  4. i would call carnival and ask them about this tour.

i would also google grand cayman and turtle farm.

you probably would get the names and phone numbers for the tour operators themselves

    have a great time

  5. Its either $50 or $100 pp or @ least thats how much it cost 2 years ago. It was deffinitly worth the money, if u do the tour its pretty touristy but u will have a lot of fun & it will be something u remember for the rest of your life.

  6. Had great time. Just came back Sunday. Cost was $65/person thru carnival. Water and punch was provided so bring your own rum in a separate container. Just don't drink too much before the stingrays. Yes, it was worth the money. Look for the conservation guy in the black scuba suit. He made sure the tour guides were handling the stingrays properly and he was available for question and answers. Our tour guides at  both turtle and singray city were a lot of fun. h**l is tiny and we only spent 15 minutes there. Just enough time to get t-shirts and send off postcards. Have fun!

  7. We did this tour in March, 07.  It was disappointing.

As I recall, it was about $100 per person plus tips for the bus driver that was over 90 minutes late in picking us up at the pier.

h**l was a huge disappointment.  It is a rock formation in front of a convenience store that sells $30 tee-shirts.  We spent all of about 15 minutes there.

We were rushed at the Turtle Farm so we really did not get to enjoy it.

The Stingray Tour was OK.  The sand bar was so crowded by the time we arrived.  That tour just tries to fit too much into the amount of time that you have in GC.

We returned to Grand Cayman this year and did the Boatswain's Deluxe Beach Break in GC.  You get to use the salt water lagoon at the Turtle Farm for snorkeling and watch them hand feed the sharks.  Plus there is a pool and beach.  We got more time at the Turtle Farm and it was great the second time.

Whatever you chose on GC, allow plenty of time to tender (ride the ferry) back to your ship.  The lines can get really long the later you wait in the day.

  8. Several years ago I went to Grand Cayman with my family on a Carnival cruise. I know this wasn't part of your question, but in my opinion, Grand Cayman has the most beautiful beach I've ever seen. Crystal clear water and you can wade out pretty far and still see the bottom. Stingray City is the only excursion I have ever purchased in five cruises and it was so totally worth it. Imagine being in water up to your waist (or chest) and these huge creatures swim between your legs, brushing against your legs. I was reminded of cat's fur. That's how soft they were. I looked on Carnival's website and found a price of $50+ for an excursion that goes to Stingray City. I could hook you up with a 2 hour excursion to Stingray City for $46 , but you could also go to cruisecritic.com and ask your question there and get some great answers. But in my opinion, it is worth the money and I would definitely go again.
