i have a 1987 442 that has been sitting in my garage for a couple years. I have taken it out to clean it and have started it before. It has a dead battery but i can jump start it.

My question is what should i do to the car tune up wise to make it run well. any suggestions would be great!

Thanks for the help in advance. I would really like to get this car running again

  1. fresh gas,  and new plugs cap rotor and wires, clean oil would not be a bad idea. if the battery sat that long it might be time to replace that also.

  2. First off, with it having sat for a couple of years, you will want to have the carb rebuilt. next would be to replace the fuel filter, then I would look at replacing the plugs, wires, Cap and rotor. Check that the timing is set correctly, next I would check the operation of the brakes, transmission and power steering. from there you should be good.

  3. plugs, wires, distributor cap and rotor, air filter, fuel filter, empty out all the old gas and put in new and change the oil and filter, this should get it going.

  4. You should check all the belts hoses and plug wires for signs of deterioration check all fluid levels, check also the tires for deterioration , add a fuel supplement to the gas tank and fresh gas. you should be good to go
