  1. don`t bother with the scart socket just use the old fashioned arial leadsockets

  2. It would be a better quality picture, if you used a TV with a SCART, alternatively, there are leads with SCART on one end, and 3 or 6 video/audio leads with phonos.

An aerial connector requires that you use a modulator, so the signal looks as if it is coming from a Transmitter, such modulators are found in VHS recorder/players.

Since a DVD is a digital device, and the aerial connector on the TV is an analogue input, quality is seriously degraded by the modulator.

  3. Unlike the VHS video recorders which you could tune your tv to pick up (often on channel 36), DVD players  do not have UHF modulators in them so you can't use that as means of inputting to the telly.

There is no such animal as a SCART - Aerial connector. The SCART carries pure video and audio signals but the signal on the aerial connector is Ultra High Frequency (UHF) radio signal with complex modulation. Sorry about that.

What you need is a box which accepts the video and audio signals from the SCART and outputs it as a UHF signal that your tv set's tuner can handle.

Follow the link below to Nexia and you'll see the sort of thing that you need. This one also allows you to continue to use the existing aerial lead so your children will still be able to watch off-air broadcasts.

When the digital switchover happens in your area make sure that you buy them a Freeview box. This will save you having to replace their tv set. You can use a SWITCHED SCART combiner box to inout them into your modulator.

  4. Hi,

Scart to aerial is easy. They are called RF modulators.

Universal ones output to any channel in case there is any interference on a single set channel. If you can get a scart throughput one like the one mercury sell, then it's a real doddle to set up.

Type "universal rf modulator" into an ebay search engine and chose one scart based, that should do the trick. They are powered, but cost a few pence a month the run.

If you need a link to the perfect one, email me, but ebay should be fine.
