TV 1080p - problem with buying the 1080p?

I'm undecided on the 'new' plasma and lcd at this time, but I do know we will not invest in a 1090p, It took years of pressure for broadcasters to finally produce 1080i or 720p, not 1080P, and there are NO plans to pump out 1080p on cable, satellite, or broadcast. There is one dvdformat that puts out a 1080p signal and that is Blu Ray. Blu Ray, is a great dvd technology and the picture quality II guess is good however they say it's no better than the 720p.

So I know we'll get the 720p and we have no plans to buy the new technology Blu Ray, as the dvd's are so expensive and we are not really movie watchers. Anyway, I think we are leaning toward the LCD's. Thanks for all your in put.

  1. well game consoles like the 360 and the ps3 are also 1080p capable

if ur thinking that the 1080p tvs are too expensive right now, u could wait a couple months to see the price drop like crazy, cuz i had my tv for abuot a year and got it for 1300 while the the 1080p tvs back then were abuot 1800.  Now 1080p tvs are about the same price as the 720p tv i buoght a year ago.

and LCD > plasma because LCDs have lesser chances of picture burn ins

  2. Depending on your screen size and the distance you sit from your TV, I support your very rational decision to purchase 720p and not buy into the hype of 1080p. When you consider that over 90% of the programing is 720p and that content will always look the best when presented in its natve resolution, a 720p TV will give you the best picture quality. 1080p is only needed for plasma TVs over 50" or LCD TVs at or above 46".

The gamers will tell you to go with a 1080p LCD because of the output of their gaming systems, but fast motion on a 1080p LCD TV reduces to no better than 240-450 equivilent vertical lines of resolution (versus 900 for plasma). With the significant improvements made to plasma technologies, burn-in is NOT the issue the LCD biggots would have you believe.
