Question:

TV Acting Weird?

Today, I went to turn my TV off, and I heard a weird "pop" when it happened, like something blew or something.

I waited a few moments and turned it back on, because I thought I was hearing things. Next thing I know, green lines are shooting up on the screen, and then the TV shuts itself off.

I let it rest for an hour or two, then tried again to turn it on. The TV stays on now, but the picture is a bright lime green, and it turns yellow if I try to play my Gamecube, etc.

So did my picture tube blow or something? Can it be fixed, or should I just buy another television?

I don't know much info about the tv. It was a gift. It's an RCA, around 22-24"

  1. Just get another TV, your going to be paying as much as the TV is worth.

  2. Sounds like a Tube TV and one or more of the guns have crapped out. Spend a few bucks and get an HD TV. If you are money conscious, just get a 1080i version, which means interlaced (odd lines first get drawn, then the even lines) as opposed to a 1080p which means progressive and draws all lines at the same time. This is considered Full HD.

  3. It is probably cheaper to go to walmart and get a new one. that is you cathode tube that blew. its not safe to turn that tv on now

  4. If it's an older TV I would just get a new one. That DTV stuff is just around the corner anyway
