I am putting up roof aerial - when I held the end of the co-axial cable which connects to the tv I got a mild tingle - and the same thing happens when the scart lead is held prior to plugging in to the dvd player. The tv is switched on when this happens.

Is this normal?

  1. No, it is not normal.

The aerial 1) may be close to and picking up a charge from a nearby power line (if so, call your power company before working with the aerial!!!!), 2) you may have a short in your home's electrical wiring that is making the ground and/or neutral system hot (if you feel a tingle when touching metal pipes, equipment cases, etc., this is likely), or your power company's neutral system may be injecting a voltage onto your home's neutral.

I recommend you call an electrician and/or your power company for assistance right away.

  2. I didn't notice it but it is probably OK and is the TV giving it off.  One note, make sure you have the antenna grounded in case of lightning storms.
