Question:

TV Dinners .... ?

We eat our meals on trays around the telly .... as a matter of course ... despite having the proverbial dining table. I just wondered if others did this or is the dining table still the place to eat at mealtimes?

  1. We eat in front of the television (usually together).  Only a few times a year do we eat at the table together.

We still have the 'family bonding' time that people insist only comes at the dining table, so I don't see anything wrong with it.

  2. Fast food places

  3. we still eat at the table.

  4. Sometimes we eat our meals at the table, sometimes in the living room, perhaps with TV on, perhaps not.

Dining tables may well be going out of fashion a bit, though. Sitting in front of the TV is actually quite reminiscent of the days before dining tables when families would sit round a fire to eat.

I feel there is a place for both ways of eating. It is important for children to know how to sit at a table and eat with manners, otherwise all h*** may break loose in a resaraunt!

What is more important is the family sit together and talk during a meal - mealtimes are a great way of getting time together and talk about the day or whatever while sharing a meal. It really doesn't matter if that is at a table or around a TV. The bad thing about sitting round a TV is there is the temptation to just watch TV and eat and not say anything, but if people make a concious effort to at least make comments now and again fine.

And if you are on your own? It really doesn't matter where you eat! I have even known myself to eat in the hall when I first stayed on my own - just because I could!

  5. ~~Well, my husband and I still eat at the dinig room table (easier than wrestling the dogs for our food), but we put a TV in the dining room and now we call our meal "A Dinner Show"

Tv and phones weren't allowed when the kids were growing up, but we love our favorite shows with dinner now!~~

  6. Always at the dinner table. Dining together is more important than tv. tv can wait. There's a time and a place for everything.

  7. We never eat in the dining room. The dining room is just for decoration at my house. I eat in the computer room or wherever, my dad eats in the computer room too, and my mom eats in the living room.

  8. The dining table is a nice place to sit for a family meal, if your just on your own then sit and watch the television otherwise, sit at the dining table.

  9. I make my two daughters and my husband sit at the table. Every once and a while we'll eat on the couch.

  10. At the dinner table.

  11. I eat at the table at my aunts and grans at the weekends but during the week we sit on the sofa

    xx

  12. Every Family is different.

  13. I just watched President and Mrs Jimmy Carter on a show stating that when home they eat on tray tables sitting on the sofa watching tv so you are in good company

  14. Here's a great idea..... maybe you can buy a telly and put it in your dining room. Then you can watch telivision and eat dinner w/ your family at the sametime. This is what I did and it works very wel.

  15. We do both

  16. I am very busy so i eat in the bathroom perhaps on the toilet or maybe in the shower it just depends

  17. You need to turn off the tv and have dinner sitting at the table, especially if you have kids.  Talk with each other and keep communication going.

  18. We eat at the dining table. I'd find it extremely uncomfortable to eat on the sofa.

  19. some do some dont but it has been proven that eating in front of the tv can distract you causing you to eat 70% more i would be more concerned with this rather than weather or not other families are like you

  20. I have allways eaten on the sofa with the telly on except for, obviously, going out for meals or christmas.

My parents allways did this, so this is what i do in my home with my family.  My flat is too small for a dining table anyway.  I have a drop leaf fold up one put its such a pain in the butt to get out.

  21. It depends on the family.  We eat where we want, at the table or in front of the TV, unless we have a formal meal.

  22. When I was growing up I ate with the TV tables and everything. We have since gotten rid of these, but yes we still sit around the tv and eat dinner. The only time we eat dinner at the table is for a special occasion. I think it is very much still how people eat.
