I just bought a tv with no tuner at all. I know that you can use a VCR or DVR but can I just buy a DTV converter box?

  1. Yes, if you live in the US, you can buy a converter box if it has video and audio outputs.  But converter boxes only output standard definition 4 by 3 aspect video.  So if this new TV is a widescreen HDTV you would be better off with a digital set top box.

For the US the best digital set top box is the Samsung DTB-H260F HDTV Tuner which you can read about here:

This tuner lets you view HDTV content in HD on your HDTV monitor.

Why?  It does not display its menu and setup screens on non-HDTV sets.

You can find this set top box at most electronics retailers such as Best Buy and Circuit City or buy it on their web sites.

  2. yes, of course, but if your gonna spend the money you might really consider a DVR (or a dvd recorder at the very least ( I don't think you can find a VHS with a digital tuner))
