TV News Job Questions?

I am in a Broadcast Media major. I am working in the Mass Comm Dept. I am also starting on our college radio this spring, and I will work on the college tv channel like in a year or so.

My dream is to be a Foreign Correspodent or a Head Anchor at a large market.

I know I dream high, but I really believe I can do whatever I want in life.

I want t know if this would be a somewhat logical path to get there.

I plan to intern at a local station right after I graduate in a mid size market. If I get hired I want to work as a Reporter for a few years, and eventually become an Weekend Anchor and Reporter, after this I hope to move to a larger market, and become a Reporter or/Weekend Anchor, and eventually work my way up Market size and eventually get to a Large Market as a Head Anchor of Reporter.

I want this to take like maybe 15 years or so to get to a market the size of say DC, as a head anchor.

Is this logical and what would I do to eventually be a Foreign Correspondent.

  1. Well you have answered you own question rather well, yes that is a logical course to follow, in my opinion you are not aiming too high at all nor are you being unrealistic.

When applying for your employment, make it clear what your aspirations are and do not hide your talents 'under a bushel'.

    Good luck.
