TV Tuner and Video Capture Card Question?

I am interested in buying a PC Video Capture Card but there is one thing I have to know about it. If I buy a video capture card, then I put it into my computer can I use it to capture any video on my screen? For example: I put a DVD into my internal computer DVD player, then I turn on the capture card, can I copy the DVD? I know this is illegal but I am curious if it will work for legal DVDs or other media like streaming video.

  1. You would have to set it up to do that. My card only has coax  input, but I can use a converter to change RCA to coaxial, in order to capture the DVD. BUT the recorded file would be pretty big, just easier to get a DVD ripping program, they can save the file in .avi, making it about 1/3 of what it would be if saved in .mpg.

The capture card only captures media comming into the card, not through your internal dvd player.

So the short answer is NO, either use an external dvd player for home, and hook it into capture cards, or you need to get a dvd ripping software.
