TV antenna and cable?

What is the best way to be able receive basic cable and over the air local channels in hd without distorting the cable signal? I have an attic antenna that i have tried to connect to my basic cable with a splitter but it distorts the signal for basic cable. You see my tivo has one input for cable and one for over the air hd channels. Problem is my attic antenna has a separate cable than the basic cable coax so i can only think of two things to do, one is splitter but that distorts the signal and two run a separate antenna cable to the back of tivo. Any other ideas?

  1. Sorry, but your question is a little confusing to me.  You say that your TIVO has an input for your cable and one for HD air signals.  Connect the cable to that connector and your antenna to the other connector.  Trying to mix the antenna and basic cable will cause signal problems because some of the air signals and the cable signals will be the same frequency.  Mixing them will distort them.
