Question:

TV blue screen?

I hadn't watched the television in weeks, and now it's showing a blue screen. The only way I can get three channels is to partly unhook the cable; when it's entirely connected or disconnected, *all* channels just show a blue screen. I'd really like to solve this problem before I leave the sublet later today. ... Is it likely to be an issue with cable or with the TV itself? I've messed with the input options, but it's a no-go. Any help would be greatly appreciated. :)

  1. Based on the symptoms you describe, the plug on the end of the lead, or the socket on the back of the TV is probably damaged. If it's the latter then there's little you can do, but if it's the lead you can first try removing it completely and then re-inserting it the other way around (only works if both ends of the lead are identical) and if that doesn't work try another lead.

If it's a SCART lead (a.k.a. Euroconnector, Peritel) you can get them for less than £5 and they often fail due to bent pins.

  2. It could be one of a few things. It could be that the colour is completely out of balance, and just needs going into the settings and setting it back to default. Unlikely since if changes when you unhook a cable.

If it is an LCD screen, it has 3 coloured bulbs in the back that make the picture for you. (Red, Yellow and Blue), the Red and Yellow bulbs might of blown and the only one left is the blue.

Plasma, the gas inside the picture tube is running out, in which case it can not be filled, you will need a new TV.

Picture tube: basically, it's stuffed. Throw it out.

EDIT: Try retuning your TV set completely. Since I don't know the exact details and I am not there it is hard to tell. Don't throw out your set until you get a professional to look at it properly.

  3. Your Blue screen is caused by you being OFF CHANNEL...especially when you can disconnect and connect the antenna and you get that little "Blast" of picture.....

I know....I work on them daily.....

Get the remote out for the TV set...

Just dial in 03 and enter...

Now obviously you played with the INPUT button.....you may have to play it like a fiddle to get it to go back to Ant 1 or Ant 2....AND it might actually require that it be set for either Video 1 2 3 4 5 6 7....

Hmmm, might be tougher than YOU thought .....

Is there a CABLE BOX you had a different remote for? Maybe a satellite box?

What you need to really do to solve this dilemma you are in is to REMEMBER what normally popped up on the screen when you First turned it on....

    Vid 1 , maybe 3 popped up....how about C3?

What cables are connected to the back of the TV set?  RF cables only would indicate the tuner is used, and would easily be set to Channel 3 on Ant A or Ant B input.....

Then if your Cable box has red yellow white 3 wire cables coming out of it, then you know you will be in the Video 1 UP TO Video 4 realm....

And if it's 5 wires off the back of it, then you'll be in the Video 4 UP TO Video 6  realm of numbers....

And if it's ONE CABLE.....then it's HDMI and that would be in the Video 5 to 7 numbers.....

Of course, you can always call the apartment manager/subleasor

One thing I would not do.....redecorate the cables.
