Ok. Friend bought a new tv: Toshiba Regza 42XV540U. She has a HD ready cable box. Purchased a HDMI cable and placed it into one of the inputs on the back of the unit. Picture comes through but audio does not. How do you fix?

  1. Make sure that the cable box is set to output audio through HDMI. Most have an option to send audio out through optical as well. That might be the issue. Also, check to make sure the cable box does output audio through HDMI, there are a few that only send video through hdmi, and not Audio (Pointless, I know). You or your friend could call your cable provider and give them the model # of the cable box, and have them check this information for you. Hope this helps.

  2. its probably just the cords, they are probably cheap, im not calling cheap, just the cords bcuz a few of my friends went looking for the cheaper price on the hdmi cords and the same thing happen with them. when they bought new ones, they had no problems. but if you try some more cords and no sound, then you might wanna take it to a tech to see if it is your inputs slots acting up. and i would also listen to what the first guy says too, he makes sense too.
