So my Insignia television with built in dvd player..that is barely 2 years old plays DVDs wonderfully. Great sound and all.

However, when I go to watch TV, the picture is there, but the sound isnt. It is silent unless I'm turning the volume up and down.. and when that happens, its just like a popping sound...?

I do not have cable, but thats not the problem. I used to be able to watch tv with no problem with the antenna...

What I'm wondering is how can the tv play sound when i watch a dvd, but not when i go to watch tv..? Any help would be greatly appreciated

  1. Make sure SAP (Second Audio Program) is turned Off.  It should be on one of the menus.

DVD players don't generate the SAP signal so your set is listening to the main audio channel (assuming you are using the RF input).  If you are using a direct connection, you get the main audio anyway.

Over the air, if SAP is on, you are listening to the SAP channel which is usually used for a second language.  If the station is not sending audio down the SAP channel, you hear nothing.  Turning SAP off will let you listen to the main audio channel.
