The hotel is in the Zone Touristique, and is away from the actual city of Monastir. Skanes and Monastir used to be separate cities, but with thime and expansion, they have merged.

Monastir is a very quiet city. There are some really nice Cafés that you can visit. One of my favorites is Artemisia in Marina. Another of my favorites is El Grotte. It is on the far end of the Corniche and provides a wonderful tropic setting that overlooks a small port in the Sea. They have some of the best drinks there too! I personally like the Lait de poule (like a milkshake) and the chocolate chaud (a creamy melted chocolate drink).

Monastir also has some really good restaurants! Here are my favorite places to eat in Monastir:

DA PIERO PIZZARIA - The owner is from Italy and serves EXCELLENT authentic Italian food. The pizzas here are a little more expensive than other places, but well worth it. The restaurant has a very calm and relaxing environment and is very clean and well kept. He imports EVERYTHING (from equipment to ingredients) from Italy to give the food an authentic Italian taste.

ARABELLA - Serves traditional Tunisian food with a little flare of Italian. Reasonable prices and also has a lovely atmosphere.

DAR CHIKAN - Excellent Tunisian food in an old Traditional style atmosphere. Prices are reasonable and you get big portions. Make sure to bring an appetite!

LE PIRATE - Fresh Seafood. It cost 40 TDN per person, but each person gets a drink, soup, salad, appetizer platter (4 or 5 different appetizers total - one per table), a big fish, tea, and dessert. The atmosphere is done really nice as well and it is a nice place to enjoy a nice meal.

Here are some of my personal pictures of Monastir:

Because Monastir is such a small and quiet city, we usually go to the next city over, Sousse, for entertainment and shopping. Sousse is only about 20 mins from us and is huge! There are tons of things to do there! Here is a question I answered that talks about things to do there:

1.) There is no dress code for tourists. You can come wearing shorts, tank tops, flip-flops, basically, whatever - As long as you are in the touristicy part of the city. Women even swim and sunbathe topless.

Once you go into the main city, because this is a Muslim country, you should show some respect and dress a little conservatively. I'm not saying cover yourself up or anything like that. Conservative Western street clothing (shorts, short sleeved/sleeveless shirts) is appropriate. Attire for women should be more conservative, such as dress lengths should be below the knee.

Do not wear revealing clothes (shorts and tank tops are fine, but if you go around showing off your belly, have your shorts so short that they are practically up to your hips, your shirt barely covers your chest, and/or your clothes are tight, then EVEYONE (male and female, old and young) will look at you - it's a fact).

In short, just use your common sense.

2.) While walking in the medinas especially, you may get asked quite a bit if you want to buy something. To some it may be seen as pestering, but you must remember that this is how the vendors make their living (pay for their house, feed and clothe their families) and they are competing with many other vendors for your sale. Just be firm and say NO, then walk away and/or ignore them. They will not go running after you or anything like that.

3.) You could check this site as it gets closer to your arrival day for up to date info:

    http://weather.yahoo.com/forecast/TSXX00...

You can click to see temperatures in Celsius or Fahrenheit.

Weather Underground will search historical database for weather conditions in past years. The results will help you plan accordingly telling you how hot, cold, wet or windy it will be. http://www.wunderground.com/tripplanner/...

Another fun site to view is: http://www.weather2travel.com/climate-gu...

It gives the averages on different things from outside temperature to Sea temperature to hours of sunlight and more for different parts of Tunisia. Temperatures are listed in Celsius, but to view them in Fahrenheit, just hover your mouse over the temperature you would like to see.

4.) Tunisia is also a very safe place. There are not many places in this world where a women can walk the streets alone in the middle of the night without fear. Yet I often take late night walks (around 11pm or so when I can't sleep) and have never had any problems and have never felt fearful. Tunisia on a whole is a very safe country. I have lived in Tunis and Monastir and have visited other parts of the country without any problems. There is a joke here too the between a police officer and a police officer, you find a police officer. Believe me, it's safe. We also let our children run around the marina or the cafés and don't worry about someone kidnapping them because that just doesn't happen here. It is a terrific place to raise a family - amongst safety, security, love, kindness, etc.

5.) In addition to bringing your travel documents (passport, ID, tickets).Be sure to bring:

    *Sunscreen/suntan lotion

    *shorts

    *short sleeved/sleeveless shirts

*1 or 2 nice outfits to go out to the discos with or have a nice

    night on the town with

    *bathing suit

    *sandals

    *walking shoes

    *money

*camera (plenty of film if not digital; extra memory & batteries if it

    is digital)

    *toiletries

    *travel adapter (just in case)

*anything that you use to do your hair

    *sunglasses

*small supply of various medicines in case you get sick

    *hat

Make sure you keep a reasonable amount of money on you, and keep some stashed away in your hotel room.

A lot of the hotels offer many fun activities, most for a minimal price. Tunisia is so full of history - you will find historic sites and places to visit in all parts of the country, and they are finding and excavating more regularly.

If I can be of any more help or assistance, please feel free to contact me anytime.

  4. yes the hotel was all refurbished a few years ago and to a very high standard you will love it and TVs in all the rooms with satellite and situated right on the beach enjoy your holiday
