TV or not TV?

I wanna watch TV in my dorm room where I already have a PC. I'm thinking of buying a TV tuner card in stead of a TV box...what do you recommend?

And by the way, do you know how much more (or less) energy PCs use compared to TVs?

Thank You!!!

  1. You must get a tv!!!!!!!

  2. Depends on what size TV you want.  Or how comfortable it is to watch TV on your computer.  Energy is also a variable.  My desktop, with 19" monitor, uses 150 watts.  My computer does a lot of things.  My 61" LCD TV uses 225 watts.

I just looked up specs for someone about a 13" set.  A 13" CRT set uses 80 watts.  A 13" LCD set uses 45 watts.  All in all, it sounds like power consumption AND comfort, a separate TV is preferable to a tuner card, although the TV costs more.  A 13" TV, either type, costs between $150 - $200.  Dunno what a tuner card costs.  Of course, you can't capture or record a TV on your computer.  So there's a lot of factors to consider.

  3. get a Tv tuner thingy so you never have to leave your computer.

  4. Let's talk GREEN here:

Your average PC has a power supply of between 400 and 600 watts. Your average 17" TV draws typically 130 watts. A 19" LCD HDTV about the same, 130 watts.

So unless you don't have to pay for electricity, your better of using the TV as a TV and the PC as a PC, and turn off the PC when you want to watch TV, and turn off the TV when you use the PC.

  5. get a tuner, less money, waste & energy

plus its right there when your bored on your computer

  6. get a TV tuner card...you get more stations and you won't have to have something ese taking up so much room.

I know how small dorm rooms can be.

Also...during commercials you can check out the Internet or do homework.

Another advantage of a TV tiner card is that you can download movies to your PC and then burn them onto disk.

  7. p.c. all the way! example... internet...boring....im gonna watch t.v! So fast
