Will breaking a TV picture tube cause the tube to implode to to explode? Explain?

  1. The volume of a tv tube is a vacuum, and is under constant compression from the atmosphere.  If a hole is made in the tube, air will rush in until the pressure is the same on the outside and inside.  But if the hole also compromised the strength of the tube, it is possible for the picture tube to implode violently and throw bits of glass out at very high speed.  Vacuum tube implosions can potentially be very dangerous.
