TV picture won't stop blinking

Question

This tv is about 12 yeas old. It started to take a long time to turn on one day and began to blink periodically. It continually got worse and now it takes at least an hour to turn on and blinks every second. The sound is perfectly fine. What's wrong with it and Is it worth the repair cost or part replacement? Thanks.
