TV plugged into a surge protector, any downsides?

I'm thinking about plugging my TV (and my other electronics) into a surge protector, and turning the sruge protector off when I'm not using it. is there any way this can affect a HD LCD television?

I would think the only downside is maybe the channels would get reset and I'd have to reprogram them, right? or is there an internal battery in all TVs?

  1. no it is actually safer to use a surge protector. if the power goes out the only thing that will happen is the tv will lose track of the date and time. nothing will happen to the channels.
