Question:

TV problem?

I bought a replacement digitial TV for the one that finally gave up the ghost after 10 years of faithful viewing--and everything was working up until a few days ago.

For some odd reason, the TV keeps turning itself on and off with no warning (I panicked while playing one of my games last night--fearing the worst), and I couldn't figure out what was causing it.

All of my remotes are operating and accounted for--nothing wrong with them--so I thought that it was the digital convertor box which is causing the problem; so I disconnected it.

The TV is practically brand-new--not even a few months old--and I talked with the manufacturer over the problem, and they said that it could be an outside interference problem. (Someone having a similar model TV within close proximity to mine--or even having a remote similiar to mine.)

But until I start banging on my neighbor's doors and asking them to see if they have a TV like mine, I'm going to see if anyone here has any ideas.

Thanks!

  1. Your remotes are probably InfraRed. The sensor needs to see the light. So try covering up the sensor and see if that solves it. If not, then its something internal and you sould call the manufacturer back.

Get this resolved before the warranty runs out.

  2. I agree, first make sure it is not an IR issue (you mostly did that, but i like the idea to cover it up too) but this is most likely a hardware issue inside the TV.  Yep, hurry up and get it fixed under warranty.  Or better yet, will your store let you return it for a refund?  Then you can buy a new one.  Much less hassle than warranty repair.

  3. what does the on-off switch look like? Is it digital? or is it made out of non-elecric gears and parts? if it's digital than it probably has something to do with how the people programmed the thing back in the factory. if its non electric parts then it sounds like a hardware problem--probably the gears and parts are misalligned, or that things inside are too close together.

either way, have someone who knows mechanical things take it apart, or get yourself a refund at the store you bought it from.

  4. I think you can isolate your TV problem by the following procedures.

    1) Take the battery out from your remote.

    2) Reset all programmed functions such as timer to automatic turn on and turn off times, for automatic recording.

    3) Try to operate your TV manually for a day or at least for a few consecutive hours.

If your problem still can't solve, go to the dealer and ask for a replacement.
