Question:

TV "boosters" for outdoor antennas?

Have a camper with a booster on its small antenna and get terrific reception in a remote area near Lake of the Ozarks.

However, have put up a building with living quarters and will be installing a larger antenna. What is a booster, how does it work, and what type would I need to assure same type of reception as I get on the coax connected antenna through booster in the camper? Any advice? Not so sure about all that info on db, noise, etc. Will receive signals from Columbia MO and Springfield MO, opposite directions.

  1. My wife and I honeymooned around that area . . .

A booster is nothing more than an amplifier.  If you put up a good sized VHF/UHF antenna and with the extra height of a building, you might be able to do without the booster.

Since Columbia and Springfield are in different directions, you will probably want to put in either a rotator or two antennas and run them through a combiner.

Use http://www.antennaweb.org as a resource.  Put in your ZIP code and it will give you a list of the stations you could expect to receive.
