Why do people press the button on a remote control harder when they know the batteries are flat?

  1. Hi Phil,

    I guess it is human nature. The mind says it didn't work I better press harder.

    My mother in law's remote broke. I got her a programmable one. The problem was you reset the program by holding the "ON" button down for five seconds. When she turns on the TV she holds the button down until the picture comes on and resets the remote. Grrrrrrrr!

    The same thing when a car door is locked. You pull harder the second time.

  2. people do this, because it makes the buttons more responsive. When the batteries are low, the remote is less responsive, so the keys must me stroked harder in order to get feedback.
