It also says that it has HDMI ports. So when I use the HDMI ports do they become 1080p? What do they do?

  1. This HDTV always displays a 720p picture. That's how it was manufactured. That is what "native resolution" means.

If you feed it a 1080p signal through the HDMI port, the TV just converts it to 720p (throwing away the extra picture information).

With only a 32" screen you are not going to see much difference between 720p and 1080p. Now if you were buying a 50" screen, you probably would see a difference between the two if you sat close enough to the HDTV and have good vision.

If you feed this HDTV a 480i signal, the HDTV will upconvert it to 720p buy "guessing" at what the missing picture information is.

The HDMI ports are where you connect hi-def video signals from things like Blu-ray players and HD- cable boxes.

If you get HD signals with an antenna or "open" QAM cable system, you don't need a HDMI cable. You just connect those to the cable/antenna "F" connector and the HDTV uses it's internal tuner.

  2. If you buy that tv and are just going to watch cable it will be fine.  Cable broadcasts at 1080i,  which that tv will be capable of.  Unless you are getting a blu ray player you are not going to be using 1080p.
