TV show like hogans hero's but in the air and free?

I`m looking for a tv show that was in the late 70`s early 80`s maybe that was about an american bunch of pilots that used to fly missions in ww2 against the germans.It was sort of a mixture between mash and the a team.There was one episode where if they came back damaged and they couldn`t contact the tower they would wiggle their tales behind them and when they did return damaged and couldn`t contact the tower they swayed their planes tails to show the air traffic controller that they were american planes(as they were disguised as german planes,(sorry) the air traffic controller didn`t alert the base.any help would be good.Ineed some sleep.

Black Sheep Squadron might be it.

It was on in the 70s and it was set in WWII.  Colonel Pappy Boyington was the main character.

The only European theater TV show dealing with aircraft I remember was "12 o'clock high" and it was in the 60's
