Tabitha Baumann clinches Women’s 1500m freestyle gold – Swimming news
Tabitha Baumann of Canada clinched gold medal of Women’s 1500m freestyle on day one of the 2013 Arena International Grand Prix at George F. Haines International Swim Center on Friday, May 30.
The 17-year-old Baumann showed no leniency to her opponents in the distant freestyle event as she emerged on the finishing end for first position.
With her commendable form, Baumann remained prominently ahead of her following swimmer and tapped the wall for gold medal with an effort of 16 minutes and 37.03 seconds.
The gold medallist was followed by Chare Escobar Torres of Mexico, who stayed nearly three seconds slower and surfaced on the finishing end for silver medal with an effort of 16 minutes and 40.53 seconds.
The silver medallist was chased by Carolina Bil Queiroz of Minas, who was almost 20 seconds slower and touched the wall with an effort of 17 minutes and 00.42 seconds for bronze medal.
Fourth position of the race was obtained by Bridget Coley of Swim On, who was only 0.07 seconds behind and settled on the wall with the timing of 17 minutes and 00.49 seconds.
Fifth fastest spot of the race was traced by Moriah Simonds of Pleasanton Seahawks, who remained two and a half body length behind and touched the wall with an effort of 17 minutes and 02.92 seconds.
Sixth position of the race was obtained by Miyamoto Castaneda of Mexico, who was considerably behind and tapped the wall with an effort of 17 minutes and 08.26 seconds.
Seventh position of the race was obtained by heather Maitland of Swim On, who was four body lengths apart and clocked an effort of 17 minutes and 12.03 seconds.
Jessica Wolf of Club Wolverine-M, who was 3.23 seconds slower from overpowering her foregoing finisher, secured eighth position of the event. She remained considerably behind and concluded her race in a time of 17 minutes and 15.26 seconds.
In addition, Baumann expressed happiness over her gruelling efforts in the 1500m discipline and received medals and accolades for her undisputed efforts at the victory ceremony of the tournament after the session.
